The League of Women Voters of the Fredericksburg Area is a nonpartisan civic community where people gather, learn, organize, and take real action together.
Pride.
Pride is celebration, visibility, memory, and community. It is also a reminder that democracy depends on people being seen, heard, protected, and able to participate fully in public life.
The League is a member-led organization where civic participation is not reserved for experts, insiders, or people with the right connections. We believe democracy is stronger when more people can enter the room, ask questions, learn together, and lead.
LGBTQ+ community members, allies, students, young voters, longtime residents, new residents, and people new to civic work are welcome here.
Nonpartisan does not mean silent
Nonpartisan does not mean apolitical. It does not mean passive. It does not mean afraid to act.
For the League, nonpartisanship means we do not support or oppose candidates or political parties. Our work is not about helping a party win. Our work is about helping voters participate, helping neighbors understand public issues, and helping democracy function in real life.
We make space outside of party politics where people can work together on voting access, civic education, local government, public accountability, and community participation.
Movements are sustained not only by protests, but by the generations willing to organize, teach, and lead together.
What We Actually Do.

Voter registration
We help people register, update their registration, and make a voting plan.
Voter education
We share reliable, nonpartisan information so voters can understand elections, deadlines, offices, and ballot issues.
Candidate forums
We help voters hear directly from candidates in a structured, nonpartisan setting.
Local government observation
We track local meetings and help residents understand what is happening in the public bodies that affect daily life.
Public comment and letters
We help people learn how to speak clearly and effectively to public officials.
Community conversations
We create spaces where neighbors can discuss local issues without needing to be experts first.
Youth and student engagement
We help younger residents build civic skills, confidence, and leadership.

Speak up for mail ballot access
A current USPS proposal could affect mail and absentee ballot access. Individuals can submit public comment and explain how changes to mail voting would affect themselves, their families, their neighbors, and their communities.
